Is LÄRABAR™ owned by General Mills?
Yes, LÄRABAR™ was acquired by the Natural and Organic Division of General Mills in the US called Small Planet Foods in June 2008. LÄRABAR™ is now a part of the General Mills Snacks Operating Unit, and it is launching in the UK in 2019.
How has LÄRABAR™ changed since the acquisition?
The LÄRABAR™ product hasn’t changed – our bars have always been and will always be gluten free, dairy free and vegan, and a simple mix of fruits, nuts, and spices. Being a part of General Mills helps us to make our products available to a larger amount of people, which is in line with Lara’s original vision that everyone should have access to real food, regardless of location or circumstance. LÄRABAR™ is 100% committed to the core values on which we were founded – to make simple and delicious food, and to have a meaningful, open, transparent relationship with our consumers.
Is Lara still involved with the brand?
Lara Merriken, the founder of LÄRABAR™, is still involved with the brand in her role as Creative Director. Lara’s original vision for the company is still the guiding compass for all that we do: making real, simple, delicious food.
Why is there an umlaut over the A in “LÄRABAR™”?
The umlaut is purely decorative! LÄRABAR™ is pronounced “LAR-a bar” (like CAR or STAR), since our founder’s name is Lara.
The US website that LÄRABAR™ has many more flavours than what is currently available in the UK.
It’s true we have a great portfolio of flavours in the US and definitely intend to bring more flavours across the pond for you to enjoy! We are working on this so please keep an eye out. In the meantime you can purchase all of the US flavours on e-commerce websites such as Amazon.
What is unique about LÄRABAR™?
LÄRABAR™ is a delicious blend of fruits, nuts, spices and unsweetened choc chips. Made from whole foods? s such as nuts and apples, each flavour contains no more than six ingredients. Real, simple and delicious.
How can you say that LÄRABAR™ is the Original Fruit & Nut bar? I know of other brands that have been in the UK for much longer than LÄRABAR™!
LÄRABAR™ launched in the year 2000 in the US, which is before any other fruit and nut brand in theUS and UK. As far as we know, LÄRABAR™ truly is the inventor of the Fruit & Nut bar category.
What are the quality standards for LÄRABAR™ ingredients?
Everything we make is gluten free, dairy free, vegan, and contains no added flavours and no added sugar. Other requirements include no colours, no artificial flavours, no preservatives.
What is the shelf life of a LÄRABAR™?
The shelf life for the majority of the bars is 9 months. The “best by” date may be found printed on the back panel of the wrapper (on the underside of the flap that runs lengthwise down the back of the bar).
Will a LÄRABAR™ freeze or melt?
If placed in the freezer or outside in cold temperatures, LÄRABAR™ bars will become firmer, but will not freeze. Similarly, LÄRABAR™ bars (with the exception of the flavours containing chocolate chips) will not melt when heated. So it’s the perfect snack for summer OR winter!
Are LÄRABAR™ wrappers recyclable?
At this point in time, unfortunately no however this is something we are working on. LÄRABAR™ boxes are made of 100% Recycled Paperboard.
Does LÄRABAR™ contain peanuts?
Some of our bars do contain peanuts. We take the peanut allergen issue very seriously and have made certain that all LÄRABAR™ products are labeled if they contain peanuts or have any chance of contact with peanuts.
Are any of your products nut-free?
No. All LÄRABAR™ products include at least one type of nut. Be sure to check the ingredient list of any given flavour to make sure it’s a good fit for you.
Is LÄRABAR™ unprocessed?
LÄRABAR™ is made by what we consider to be a simple process by which fruit, nuts, and spices are mixed and pressed together. The bars are not baked or cooked. We use simple ingredients, as close to their natural state as possible, such as nuts and dates.
Is LÄRABAR™ raw? Can it be used in a Raw Diet?
Many raw foodists enjoy our products as part of their diet. However, because there is no consistent definition for what can be labeled as “raw,” we do not label our products raw. LÄRABAR™ products are made by a simple process in which primarily fruit, nuts, and spices are ground and mixed together. They are not baked or cooked. We use simple ingredients, as close to their natural state as possible, such as nuts and dates. Practitioners of the Raw Diet should be aware that due to our own internal safety standards all of our nut and cocoa ingredients are steamed or roasted.
Are your bars Paleo?
According to the Paleo Foundation, in order for a food product to be Certified Paleo, it must meet the following standards: Grain-Free, Legume-Free, Dairy-Free, Artificial Coloring, Artificial Preservatives, Artificial Sweeteners and Artificial Flavour Enhancers-Free. While many LÄRABAR™ flavours meet these standards, none of our products have been certified as Paleo.
Some LÄRABAR™s contain chocolate chips, doesn’t the final product contain added sugar?
We use only unsweetened choc chips. This is also why we call our chocolate chips “choc chips”, because they don’t contain sugar.
I am coeliac, is LÄRABAR™ suitable for me?
Everything LÄRABAR™ makes is gluten free. Our products do not currently have the Coeliac logo but they have no gluten-containing ingredients, and we have manufacturing controls in place to assure there are no cross-contact concerns.
I am vegan, is LÄRABAR™ suitable for me?
Made from only plant foods, the majority of LÄRABAR™ products are completely Vegan.
I can see that you have put the ingredients on the front of pack. I know the brand from the US and this is different. Why?
As this is a new brand in the UK, we wanted to make sure everyone easily understands what the product is, which is just a simple blend of just fruits, nuts, and spices.
I can see that the ingredients list on the front of the pack is slightly different from the list on the back of the pack. Why is that?
Since we are just launching LÄRABAR™ in the UK, we knew people would wonder what it was all about. So, on the front of pack, we wanted to highlight the primary ingredients in the product so people would know what to expect . You should always check the ingredients list at the back of pack for the full content.
